To the Citizens and the Business Community of the Village of Lakemore:
By any standard of measurement, the past year has been an extraordinary year. The swearing in of a new President with the electoral process under challenge, the end of a ten-year period of unprecedented economic growth and the declaration of a new type of World War. Few, if any, of us have escaped being deeply touched by these events and others, all unusual and all occurring in 2001.
With a spotlight on the tragedy of September 11th, it may be difficult for some of us to recognize and cherish the many blessings 2001 has provided. In Law Enforcement, we choose to accept the recent events as an awakening, a call to exercise-renewed dedication, commitment and energy to the principles we practice and defend. It is also a time to draw on the experiences of 2001, both good and bad, professional and personal, to refine and renew our pledge to service excellence, loyalty to our co-workers and you and to demonstrate an appreciation for the many freedoms we enjoy.
It is our sincere hope that we have served you well in 2003 and we look forward to the opportunity to continue that service.
Sincerely, The Employees of the Village of Lakemore Police Department.

The Lakemore Police Department was formed in 1954. At that time, the Police Chief was William Finney and was operated by a Part-Time Department. The Police Facility was located at 1389 Park Drive and consisted of the lower portion of a house were the Police Chief lived. It was made up of 4 rooms and a garage which made up about 700 square feet. The dispatch service was operated from another home in the Village of Lakemore. Chief William Finney held this position until 1960, when officer Rodney J. Sands became Police Chief. Chief Sands moved in as the new tenant of 1389 Park Drive.
The Village of Lakemore needed more room for expansion and built a new facility that would house the Police, Fire and municipal operations in 1970. This is what is known as the present Lakemore Municipal Building located at 1400 Main Street. The Police Department consisted of about 1,600 square feet, including the 3 bay garage. After the new building was established Chief Sands retired in 1971 and Brice Morgan then took over as Police Chief for a year. Dan Conner Jr. became Police Chief in 1972. Along with Chief Conner's came a Full-Time Police Department consisting of three (3) Full-Time Officers and several Part-Time Officers. In 1987, Rodney J. Sands Jr. took over as Police Chief and is now our present Chief of Police. In 2001, a new Police facility was built right behind the present Lakemore Municipal building. The new Police facility consists of 3,400 square feet, including a 4 bay garage, Chief's office, Captain's office, Secretaries office, 7 work stations, interview room, processing room and locker rooms with showers for officers. The current roster for the Police Department is 1 Chief, 1 Captain, 1 Sergeant, 4 Full-Time Patrol Officers, 2 Part-Time Patrol Officers and 5 Reserve Officers.
